The power of
Our Confession
Romans 10:9-10
That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the
Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart
that God hath raised him from the dead, thou
shalt be saved. [10] For with the heart man
believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth
confession is made unto salvation.
“Confession is made unto salvation”
We understand that confession is God’s way for a
person to be saved. Without confession there can
be no salvation.
If confession is so important what exactly is
confession?
Strong's Concordance defines confession as
coming from the Greek word "homologeo," meaning
covenant, acknowledge; confession is made. When
confession is made, it is saying the same thing
the word says. Confession then becomes
affirmation of a Bible truth. The believer can
say (confess) what the word says.
In short
a. Confession is faith's testimony in the mouth
of the believer
b. Confession is agreeing with what God says
c. Confession is faith's way of expressing
itself in the believer’s testimony
Remember, faith must be in our hearts and in our
mouths. We are over comers by the word of our
testimony (Re.12:11).
Do you know that Hebrews 3:1 reveals that Jesus,
is the high priest of our confession. This means
that as our high priest, Jesus acts on the
believer's behalf, according to what the
believer confesses.
What are we to confess?
We are to confess what the word says:
a. Our redemption is complete
b. The whole of scripture truth
c. The whole of God's revealed will
We should confess nothing but victory. We (the
believer) are more than conquerors (Ro.8:37).
Another fact one should know about confession is
that Confession brings possession
Notice in Romans 10:10, confession comes first,
then salvation. It is important to notice that
the word salvation comes from the Greek word "sozo,"
which means to be healed spiritually and healed
physically. Confession not only brings spiritual
healing but also physical healing.
Believers at the same time should be careful not
to make wrong confessions.
Wrong confessions are those which are spoken
contradictory to the word.
The believer will never rise above their
confession. We become what we speak. Within the
tongue is the power of life and death
(Pr.18:21). We are also told that our words can
snare us (Pr.6:2). Wrong confession contains the
conversation that is contrary to what the word
has to say. Wrong confession will shut the
Father out and open the door for Satan to
operate.
In Hebrews 4:14 we are advised to hold fast to
your confession .
Hold fast to your confession at all times.
Remember as you try to hold fast :
a) your reasoning will try to dislodge you from
you holding fast to your confession
b) your family members, friends, medical reports
and other humans may try to dislodge.
Refuse to yield.
Hold on.
Once we find acknowledgment of a promise in the
word, we need to hold fast to it. Paul
instructed the believer to "hold fast the form
of sound words" (2Ti.1:13). Refuse to let go of
what the word declares to be yours. By
confessing the Word, we put into motion the
promise of the word spoken. David's confession
was, "The Lord is my Shepherd" (Ps.23:1). By
this confession, the wants were removed from
David's life. We need to continue to hold fast
the Lordship of Jesus Christ in our lives. He
will not be any bigger in the believer than the
confession of the believer. When adversity
comes, storms come and the enemy comes in,
remain steadfast in your confession.
