God and Healing
A clear
revelation of this truth will bring
faith and consequent release of healing
power.
-
First of all God revealed Himself as a
great healer, Jehovah Rapha (Exo.15:26).
This reveals that it is the very nature
and character of God to heal. In
Malachi 3:6a God reveals himself as
"I am the Lord, I change not...."
Therefore, it is still His nature and
desire to heal. If a man wants to know
how God will act today, then he must
observe how He acted in the Bible. This
will tell us how He will act today, for
He has never changed.
-
Secondly we find that the God healed
through his prophets during the time of
the law. A classic example of healing is
that of Naaman the captain of the host
of the king of Syria, was a great man
with his master, and honourable, But
though he was a mighty man in valour,
yet he was a leper(2 Kings 5:1)
God healed Naaman through Elisha his
prophet,
-
Thirdly the Ministry of Jesus was a
Healing Ministry.
When we analyse the ministry of Jesus in
Matthew 4:23 we find that one third of
the ministry of Jesus was devoted to
healing all manner of sickness and all
manner of disease among the people.
He healed all who applied to Him for
healing. He never turned one away. He
healed all that He touched for that
purpose, and all were healed who touched
Him in faith for that purpose. Never do
we hear Christ say, "Be made sick."
Neither do we hear that He cast devils
in, or caused people to go blind and
insane. That is because He came to bring
us all abundant life, not a diseased,
shortened life. Once a leper came to
Jesus with the wrong theological
concept; He said, "If thou wilt, thou
canst make me clean." He said, in other
words, "I know you are able, but I am
not sure you are willing." Jesus
answered, settling this question once
and for all: "I will; be thou clean." Of
course, the leper was cleansed and went
away with a corrected theology. Many of
us need to correct our thinking and
believing along these lines and get into
the realm of certainty. We must take God
at His Word and not doubt, on the basis
of human failure, to receive. We can be
the most spiritual acting person in the
world, and still not use our faith to
believe God's promise to heal. We must
not say God is not willing. Nonsense! He
will not break His Word to those who act
and live by it. If Jesus Christ was
willing, then God the Father is willing,
because Christ only did the things His
Father did.
-
Fourthly God settled the healing and
sickness problem once and for all on the
cross
God wills and desires healing for all,
because Christ died on the cross for
all. The Bible teaches us that Jesus
Christ has redeemed us from the curse of
the law, being made a curse for us.
Isaiah further says, " ... with His
stripes we are healed." Healing is
included in redemption! This redemption
is provided freely to all who will
believe. God is not willing that any
should perish, but that all should come
to repentance.Peter, in his New
Testament writing, puts this whole
matter in the past tense, declaring an
accomplished fact (1 Peter 2:24).
-
Fifthly Jesus' Commanded his disciples
to heal
During his earthly ministry the command
He gave to His disciples was Heal the
sick.
Observe his command to his disciples in
Matthew 10:8
“Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers,
raise the dead, cast out devils: freely
ye have received, freely give”.
Luke 10:9
“And heal the sick that are therein, and
say unto them, The kingdom of God is
come nigh unto you”.
They were sent to heal the sick
Luke 9:2
“ And he sent them to preach the kingdom
of God, and to heal the sick”.
This command of Jesus to his disciples
very clearly describes God’s view on
Divine healing.
Before leaving this earth Jesus said
that those who believed in him will
continue to do the Healing Ministry
(
Mark 16:18 )
To further substantiate this truth, we
have the Book of Acts to refer to as the
pattern for the Church. It is a book
filled with miracles, healings, and
great spiritual movement through the
lives of the disciples and apostles of
the Lord.
Today there are some people who have
tried to say that the day of miracles
ended with the apostles. The record
throughout the history of the Church up
through our present day proves that this
is absolutely not true.
God has been faithful in raising up men
and women in each generation to bring
the message of salvation to the world.
Christ had in mind nothing less than a
miracle healing ministry when He said,
“... as the Father hath sent me, so send
I you."
